Botulinum Toxin Treatment
The word “Botox” refers to a trademark of the botulinum toxin, however there are other brands available such as Dysport and Xeomeen.
Botulinum toxin is a protein produced by a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum, and has been used as a medicine since the 1980s.
Nowadays it is the most used cosmetic treatment in the world. It is given through fine injections into some muscles of the face to decrease lines of expression or wrinkles in the skin. The most frequently used areas are: forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes (crow’s feet). It is also used to reduce excessive sweating in the armpits, hands and feet.
The treatment is given in the doctor’s office and there is no need for rest or special care. Effects can be seen 3-4 days after application and last approximately 4-6 months.
